5 Reasons To Give Calligraphy A Try

This year we started working with wedding stationer and calligrapher, Katy from Olive & Millicent to start running calligraphy workshops at the flower school. These have been a great success so far, but if you're one of the people wondering if calligraphy is right for you, here are some reasons to give it a go.

1. It gives you the chance to get creative

While traditional calligraphy styles like Spencerian and Copperplate follow particular rules, modern calligraphy allows you to express yourself through the art of lettering and create something completely unique to you!

2. You can create beautiful things

If you're a creative person, calligraphy can be a wonderful outlet for you. You can make beautiful greetings cards, wedding invitations or even a piece to put on your wall.

3. It challenges you

Writing with a nib and ink is nothing like writing normally, so it challenges you to think completely differently and approach writing in a unique way. A lot of concentration is required at first, but practice really does make perfect with calligraphy and you'll see a huge improvement in no time!

4. It promotes mindfulness and is good for your mental health

Calligraphy is a wonderful way to practise mindfulness, as you have to be fully present in what you're doing when you're creating the strokes. It's a great way to shut off from the world and get a bit of 'me time'.

5. It helps you to take a break from your screens

So much of our lives are based around screens these days and the art of handwriting is slowly being lost. Taking time out of your day to create something tactile and unique will help you switch off and have less screen time.

Our next Modern Calligraphy workshop is on Tuesday 27th October at 6pm, you can get your tickets here:
